A glimpse into this year at Bowmansville TNT

During this past school year, TNT Bowmansville has focused their lesson time on helping the kids to see how the whole bible points to Jesus. We started (where else?!) in Genesis. We took a chronological tour thru the Old Testament. They started off by learning how incomprehensible the size of the universe is and a little about the character of God. We told them how God spoke the world into being and how quickly it was corrupted by sin. BUT, we told them, God had a plan to save us even back then. They learned about the flood and God’s promises. They “met” Abraham – the man God chose to start the family – that would become the people – who would turn into the nation – that would produce the Savior – Jesus. The TNT kids heard that last sentence over and over again.)

Along the way we discussed how Job’s story teaches us there is a war between good and evil, how our actions affect that war, and that we don’t always know why bad things happen, but we can trust God. This is a message that not only kids need to hear, but adults alike. That is question asked by people everywhere, “why does an all loving God, let bad things happen?”. It is not for us to decide, but it is our job to TRUST in our all loving God. We “saw” the Great I AM calling Moses, the effects of the 10 Plagues, and the Israelites crossing into the Promised Land. We learned about the tabernacle, the temple, and the sacrificial system that pointed to Jesus. Through out this study one of the most poignant moments of the year was when they realized that Jesus was our Passover Lamb.

Our lessons ended with the birth of Jesus and the prophecies He fulfilled. Just as the bible does, we wove salvation into many of the lessons. The plan is to pick up on the life and teachings of Jesus next school year.

Something we always tried to make sure to do each night was prayer time. The Bowmansville TNT kids are very free when asking for prayer. Their requests range from wanting their basketball team to win to asking for healing. Many times a single child will have several requests in one evening. Our director takes these requests and, without identifying the child, types up a prayer letter to hand out to our congregation. This prayer letter also asks for prayer for the staff. Prayer is such a powerful thing, and to be able to put all these request together, so others can see and prayer as well is so important to us.

TNT Bowmansville meets on Friday nights from 6:30-8:30pm for ages 8 to 13 at Bowmansville Mennonite Church (129 Pleasant Vally Rd., East Earl, PA. 17519). We are wrapping up our year the end of July, giving the staff a chance to take a much deserved rest. We reopen on September 7th, 2018.
